Established in 1902 as a pioneering dentistry institute, Tver State Medical University has a rich record of influencing the direction of healthcare and is currently regarded as one of Russia’s top medical institutions. The People’s Commissariat of Health of the RFSR issued an order in 1935 directing the creation of a network of mental dentistry institutes. The Leningrad State Dental Institute was established as an institution of higher learning in 1936. Ninety dentists completed dental training and obtained their dental diplomas in just 1936–1937.
The most significant academic year was 1949–1950; after that, the study length was extended to five years. For the first few years of the medical graduate years, 200 individuals were admitted. Additionally, it was led by Professor R.I. Gavrilov, the director of the department, for scientific and instructional activity at the Leningrad Institute. Professor I.S. Kudrin took over as dean, followed by M.D. Dubov. In that year there were twenty professors, sixteen associate professors, sixty assistants, and twenty-eight science candidates.
